Fundamental Rights Conference in Stockholm

Category Articles, December 10, 2009

The European Union Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA), together with the Swedish EU Presidency, organizes the second annual Fundamental Rights Conference (FRC) in Stockholm on 10-11 December 2009.

By organizing the conference, the Agency aims to highlight the importance of human rights at the European level, to identify the challenges that obstruct easier access to justice, and to begin to plan strategies for increasing awareness surrounding all rights issues in the wake of the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon.

This year’s FRC aims to build momentum for “Making rights a reality for all” and will be devoted to the situation of marginalised groups who are vulnerable to rights violations, discrimination and social exclusion in the EU. The conference will examine and discuss findings emerging from recent research on discrimination.

The Fundamental Rights Conference is a major European Union event on International Human Rights Day, and it offers a forum for policy-makers, practitioners and experts to examine key fundamental rights challenges and develop courses of action that better guarantee their protection. More than 200 representatives from EU governments, EU institutions, international organisations, local authorities, civil society, social partners and specialised bodies are expected to attend.
